Our Story
Welcome to Run of the Mill Glamping, where adventure meets comfort in Snowdonia National Park! Your hosts, Dawn and Steve, create fun experiences for travelers. Set in the historic Felin Isaf watermill, we offer a cozy spot with a retro ’70s bohemian vibe. Whether you seek peace in nature or an exciting getaway, we add a free-spirited touch to your stay.
What started as a bare site two years ago has grown into more. We renovated a bell tent and horse box to welcome guests into nature while hoping to raise funds to restore our three cherished historic water mills, each with its unique charm (one needs a new roof!).
Then came Storm Dara, which devastated everything in one night. It was tough, but it also sparked a fresh start. We started rebuilding and renovating and along came Mabel. This place means the world to us, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
Your Hosts
Hi, we’re Dawn and Steve.
We decided to take on a slightly mad (but deeply rewarding) project—turning a patch of land by the river into a handmade, one-of-a-kind glamping space.
What started out as a way to raise money to help restore our three listed water mills (one needs an entire new roof!) quickly grew into something more—somewhere people could escape the noise, switch off and stay somewhere that feels a bit different.
We renovated Mabel, our 1974 vintage van, from the ground up—stripped her back, rebuilt everything and gave her a second life. Then we designed and built the kitchen, decking, outdoor shower and everything else you see on-site ourselves. It’s been a proper graft, but we’ve poured our hearts (and plenty of tea and swear words) into every detail.
This place means a lot to us—not just because of the mills, but because it’s full of intention. There’s no big team or fancy company behind it. It’s just the two of us, building something by hand that we hope gives people a proper break, in a space that’s peaceful, a bit quirky and completely unique.
Thanks for being here. We hope you love it as much as we’ve loved creating it.

The History
Felin Isaf isn’t just any old spot—it’s a treasure trove of history tucked away in the rolling hills of Conwy! Home to three Grade 2* listed buildings, this gem is one of the few remaining intact mills in the UK. Picture this: two water mills that once ground clover, wheat and other grains, with the clover mill dating back to a whopping 1680! The main corn mill strutted onto the scene in 1740 and let’s not forget the oat drying house which joined the party in 1855.
These mills hummed with activity until 1942 when modern flour harvesting took over leaving them charmingly quiet. But don’t fret! After a long slumber of 36 years, a dedicated restoration project kicked off in 1978 transforming the site into a delightful museum, tea rooms and events venue, welcoming visitors until 2001.
As you wander through, you’ll be captivated by the original machinery - think cogged wheels, pulleys and belt-operated sack hoists - all whispering tales of yesteryear. While most of the quirks here date back to the mills' heyday some bits ‘n’ bobs were rescued from a nearby windmill.
If you’re curious to learn more, hosts Dawn and Steve would love to take you on a personal tour of this enchanting mill. Just ask!
